Plastic Types

The following items can be recycled and collected from the kerb along with your residual rubbish in official Buller District Council rubbish bags.

All recyclables should be in plastic shopping bags with the handles tied.

• Plastic
• Newspaper
• Glossies and Magazines (separated from Newspaper)
• Aluminum and Tin cans thoroughly rinsed

The following items can also be recycled but won’t be picked up kerbside, you can leave these at your local transfer station free of charge:

• Glass
• Paint
• Cardboard
• Oil
• Batteries

Landfills

The Buller District Council operates refuse facilities at four different locations, these being at Westport, Karamea, Reefton and Maruia.

A skip service/transfer station operates at Reefton and Westport. Landfill sites operate in Karamea and Maruia.

Fees and Charges at the Transfer Stations are effective from 1 July 2011.

*All landfills are closed Christmas Day, New Years Day and Good Friday.
*Landfill hours may vary from time to time by Council resolution.

Refuse Collection

You may put out as many official Council rubbish bags as you like each collection day, provided the bags are identifiable as official Council bags. Bags are sold from the following outlets throughout the district for $3.50 each.
